Airway Management Discussion Prompt

By its very definition, “basic airway management” is anything but basic. As a paramedic, you know that managing the airway is one of the most critical and time-sensitive skills you’ll perform. Whether you’re caring for a patient gasping for air due to infected lungs or managing a trauma victim with a blood-filled airway, your decisions can mean the difference between life and death.

This week, reflect on the following:

• How can a puncture wound to the thoracic cavity (such as from a stabbing) impact a patient’s ability to inhale?
• How does this injury interfere with Boyle’s Law during ventilation?
