Week 3 Assignment

Immune Response and Fever Discussion Prompt

When bacteria are destroyed by leukocytes (white blood cells), pyrogens are released into the bloodstream. These pyrogens reset the body’s internal thermostat—located in the hypothalamus—to a higher temperature, which results in a fever.

This week, consider and respond to the following question:

  • How do pyrogens cause body temperature to rise?
Include the role of the hypothalamus and how the body physically responds to initiate and maintain a higher temperature.

Use your knowledge of the immune response and thermoregulation to explain this process. Be sure to post your initial response by [Insert Due Date] and reply to at least two classmates for full credit.

Looking forward to reading your explanations!
